I can count on one hand the # of posts that I've made in the last 9 months that had NOTHING to do with education, becoming a father, etc. 3. Maybe 4. Some would say many more, but I'm pretty confident. Some were stretched like Silly Putty to make the connection, but the good-intention fairy was always present.
One case in point was about the 'is it real or satire?' advertisement for a new razor by the Phillips/Norelco team(s).
Not even sure how it first came to my attention. But I can say that it was one of the funniest things I've seen in a long time...and sometimes that's enough for a post, even if it has nothing to do with the 'future of learning'.
And then the world got much, much smaller...and the entire 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon thing came very close to home. How? Let me explain.
My good buddy, Chris Lehman -- who you probably know from his "Practical Theory" blog and his remarkable efforts to start a school (the Science Leadership Academy) this fall in Philadelphia -- called me this weekend to say, "Hey, that ad for the razor you blogged about...that was my buddy!"
Yes, that's right. The guy in the ad, the guy in the robe, the guy with the intriguing voice talking about the 'shave everywhere' magic of the new Phillips/Norelco razor, the guy I've never before seen or heard of...is one of Chris Lehman's great friends.
A friend...and actor...named Jeff Meachem.
This came up because as Chris was checking out my link, the website loaded slowly, so he minimize the screen to get back to other work/emails, and then out of the blue he starts to recall the voice from the shaving ad. Just the voice. "That's Jeff!" he thinks. And re-opens the screen...and yes, yes, yes, it's Jeff, his good friend from NYC who has been a 'struggling actor' for years (in spite of mad talent) and suddenly Jeff is in the center of one of the hottest ads to sweep the net in years.
And the world feels much, much closer suddenly. Close like a razor, even!

If you didn't already back-blog-post-track to the previous post, then here's the link to the actual "Shave Everywhere" ad and Jeff's very humorous work. Expect to see much, much more of him!
