Curled up in his rocking chair this morning, little Beckett and I were 'reading' from a bullfrog hand-puppet whose mouth is actually a series of 'book' pages containing a story about some wonderful insect/animal critters that were eaten that an infant hand can grab, squeeze, and chew. 3D storytelling in true terms. Perfect intellectual reading company for both of us on a lazy Sunday morning before daddy's brain fires up.
Behind our shoulders in the rocking chair we share in his room, there are already dozens upon dozens of classic childrens books ready to be devoured in the years to come. As an ex-English teacher, we'll undoubtedly look at the best-of-the-best so he can hold his own in nursery school book reading brag sessions, but it dawns on me there is a huge world of kiddo books that I have no idea about but need to quickly come up to speed on in the years to come.
Maybe that's why I didn't dismiss openly the email I received this week from the Just One More Book podcast group, even though most unsolicited blog-link emails I receive are left alone and dismissed.
Something about it caught my eye. New daddy. Ex-English teacher. 2.0 guy. Hard to say. But thought I'd check it out.
Here's what caught my eye. On their About page:
We have no advertisers or sponsers and there is no financial gain to be had. Our goal is to link children with great books and help create happy memories for children and the adults that read to them…and to have fun!
I think I'm going to like this site! Also love that it's recorded in their favorite coffee shop. A nice touch. Especially for sleepy new dads on lazy Sunday mornings!
Christian,
We're honoured that you didn't toss us and we look forward to hearing about your family favourites as you and your little guy travel the wonderful world of great children's books.
Be sure to send us some audio for our show.
Happy Reading!
Andrea
