Any summer camp folks out there? [Anyone just want to follow a few delightful breadcrumbs?]
In addition to countless summers as a camper kiddo, I had the good fortune of working 15+ summers as a camp counselor in a wide array of settings. Little in life matches these "10 for 2" memories, no matter how much I try. And in some small way, part of my path back into the classroom points my compass back towards June/July nights, standing quietly under multi-story high pine trees, listening to my camper kids sleep in a cabin only feet away, flashlight in hand, breathing in the midnight air while letting the real world fade while the technicolor moments woven together in summer camp settings bloom end over end, barefoot, tracing stories in the pine needle paths below.
Tonight all of this came rushing back...
...and I have to push the chair back at my desk as I watch for the 4th time the video Dan Meyer has been hinting at for several months now over at his blog (DY/Dan).
As I said in a comment on his blog, I'm "utterly captivated" by what I've watched. Don't know a single gal or guy in the video (save for the editor/director who slipped into focus in the closing seconds), but I'm "there". Transported. Carried. Pulled in something fierce just like Alice.
Once again, here's the blog sign post link that leads you straight back to Dan and his priceless vision/gift.
For those short on time (right this second), I'll embed the video he created this summer below. But please -- PLEASE! -- head lickety-split over to the DY/Dan blog and become VERY acquainted with the "math teacher guy" that will quite literally knock you backwards with that certain je ne sais quoi that Pirsig and the rest of us are constantly in search of no matter where our journeys take us.
Hey, DK. I'm thinking that a future MediaSnackers Vodcast would be an IDEAL place to showcase this little piece of video magic. You diggin' what I'm diggin'?
[Psst, Dan: Brilliant. Truly. On more levels than I can put to words tonight. An honor to know you and to have looked forward to this. Can't imagine what's coming in the months/years to come, my friend!]
